Meghan Markle has risked the wrath of Scots after claiming a traditional food product synonymous with the country reminds her of ENGLAND. The Duchess of Sussex is trying to plug her 'As Ever' lifestyle brand and released an email to followers talking about new products going on sale.

This includes raspberry jam, cookies, honey and tea - and shortbread. The biscuit originated in Scotland in the 12th century and has become a fixture during the festive season, while some brands are sold around the globe.

But for Meghan, 43, this Scottish treat appears to evoke memories from the time she spent in another part of the UK, reports express.co.uk. She said: "Crunchy and delicious shortbread cookies that remind me of my time in England, with tiny flower sprinkles to add extra beauty and charm to enjoy each delicate bite."

The comment is sure to raise eyebrows in Scotland, although Meghan would likely have enjoyed shortbread at royal events with the product much loved by the late Queen Elizabeth. Made from one part white sugar, two parts butter, and three to four parts plain wheat flour, shortbread is named for its crumbly texture and has been described as the "the jewel in the crown" of Scottish baking.

Although a Scottish delicacy, it is now made across the UK as well as in Scandinavia. Earlier this year, Walker's Shortbread, based in Moray, was granted a royal warrant by King Charles III.

Other items going on sale through As Ever this week include raspberry spread in keepsake packaging, limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb, flower sprinkles, herbal lemon ginger tea, crepe mix, herbal peppermint tea, shortbread cookies with flower sprinkles, and herbal hibiscus tea.

Addressing the other products, she said the hibiscus tea reminds her of "the sun tea I made in my childhood", while the fruit spreads bring back memories of her "years of recipe testing". The crepe mix has been "inspired by my time visiting France as a student".

Speaking about what inspires her brand, Meghan – who still retains the title of Countess of Dumbarton – said: "When I think of the things I look forward to the most, I usually find them in the unexpected, in the thoughtful gesture, in the small details that show care... those small yet meaningful moments of connection are where we can all find the magic in the everyday."
